Township government is one of the oldest forms of government in Illinois. Hampshire Township was incorporated in 1857. Townships have 3 mandatory functions: Administering a general assistance program to qualifying residents, maintaining township roads, and assessing property.

The Hampshire Township boundaries are: Getty Road to the North, Brier Hill to the East, Lenschow Rd to the south and Engel Road to the west.
